FACT SHEET: AUSTRALIA'S NEW SLAVERY AND TRAFFICKING LAWS

This fact sheet looks at new changes to Australia's laws on slavery and trafficking.

New Laws

In March 2013 the Australian Parliament passed the Crimes Legislation Amendment (Slavery, Slavery-like Conditions and People Trafficking) Act 2013. The Act introduces new offences of forced labour, forced marriage, organ trafficking, and a broader offence of servitude. The Act also expands the definition of coercion to reflect the more subtle means of control used by traffickers.
