Plan a Fundraiser
Why not hold a fundraiser event to support Anti-Slavery Australia? Anyone can do it! Host a tea party, film screening, race or trivia night with friends and colleagues to help us continue our work. You could involve you family, school, your local church or company and educate others while raising money that will benefit people in need, right here in Australia.
Why fundraise for Anti-Slavery Australia?
It is estimated that there are over 30 million slaves around the planet right now, and some of them are in Australia. Anti-Slavery Australia is the only specialist legal service for victims of trafficking and slavery in Australia and has over 10 years of hands on experience with clients. We help over 70 clients at any one time who have been enslaved in households, kitchen, brothels, building sites, factories and farms all across Australia. Some have been forced to marry, and most have been forced to work. Most of our clients have come from abroad hoping for a better life but are soon working 16 hour days, 7 days a week with no pay and no freedom of movement. They are mostly subject to physical, emotional and sexual abuse on top of their already horrific work conditions.
We grant our clients access to much needed services including migration advice, and legal advice on other issues incidental to their experience of trafficking and slavery. We help them with compensation matters, and have seen over one million dollars awarded to our clients in the form of compensation as victims of crime. Our relationship with other organisations also allows them access to counselling, housing, health care and other vital services.
Your fundraising helps us:
- Offer specialised legal support to survivors including exploring their migration options and pursuing compensation
- Connect survivors with counselling and important support services
- Research emerging issues in forced labour, trafficking and forced marriage
- Raise awareness and empower your community to take a stand against slavery
- Inspire communities to learn what trafficking and slavery is and how to respond appropriately
- Educate people who are vulnerable to trafficking
Our mission is to promote the human rights of men, women and children who have experienced human trafficking, slavery, forced labour, forced marriage and other forms of exploitation through research, advocacy and legal service. We have worked with hundreds of people as they move towards hope and freedom after traumas of slavery and trafficking.
Where does the money go?
Donations go directly to support Anti-Slavery Australia’s work with victims of trafficking and slavery. This includes:
- Legal work
- Research and advocacy
All money goes directly to fund projects where it is most needed. We are based at the Faculty of Law at the University of Technology Sydney, so our administrative costs are met allowing us to extend our operation to help those who need it. We have a fabulous team of legal and outreach volunteers who allow us to keep our costs down and our service thorough and effective.
We are registered as a gift receiving charity which means that all donations over $2 are tax deductable.
